Spending Analyzer Calculator
Reconcile observed cash movement with categorized spending before deciding where the month can change.

Balance first, categories second
The result will compare observed cash outflow with the categories you entered.
How the spending analysis is calculated
The calculator first derives observed outflow from opening spendable cash plus income minus closing spendable cash. It then compares that boundary with the entered categories. Percentages remain provisional until the two totals agree.
Reconcile the month
Opening cash plus income minus closing cash establishes the outflow that needs explaining. The category total is checked against that amount before any spending interpretation is offered.
Separate choice from uncertainty
Flexible wants and extra debt are shown separately from unresolved cash. That keeps an unknown ATM withdrawal from being mistaken for a deliberate category decision.
Compare shares on one denominator
Every category is divided by the larger of observed outflow and explained outflow. This keeps the distribution internally consistent while a reconciliation gap is still under review.
How to interpret the spending result
Start with the reconciliation status and unresolved cash, not the largest category. A gap can reveal a missing transaction, a boundary mismatch, or a duplicated card repayment. Only use the category shares after that check is complete.
What the spending analyzer cannot establish
- Whether a transaction was entered in the correct category
- Whether a card repayment duplicates purchases recorded elsewhere
- Whether one month represents seasonal or annual spending
- Whether a spending change is practical for your household
Questions about the spending analysis
Does the analyzer connect to my bank?
No. The calculator uses only the figures entered in the browser. It does not sign in to an account, download transactions, or inspect a statement.
Why can the result show that categories exceed observed outflow?
The category ledger is larger than opening cash plus income minus closing cash. Check transfers, duplicated card repayments, statement timing, and whether every figure uses the same account boundary.
What belongs in unresolved cash?
Use it for cash withdrawals or other outflows that cannot yet be supported by a receipt, note, or reliable category. Keeping the amount visible is better than guessing.
